WESTWARD HO? NO! A ROADRUNNER AND STEALTH R Ving

After four days of non-stop travel, John finally decided he had had enough.  We stopped at the RV park directly behind the Shell station at the I-10 and I-8 junction near Gila Bend, Arizona.

John's legs were swelling, a danger sign for one who was in the hospital just over a year ago with congestive heart failure. This is how he spent most of our time there. He also walked in order to increase circulation in his legs.  It worked and he is better today.

This RV park is an Escapees fifty percent off park, so we stayed for just over $13.00.  To put it mildly, we thought this was not going to be a pleasant experience.  But we were mildly surprised.  We had full hook-up, WIFI and very little noise from the interstate.  We slept very soundly, but John had maxed out his energy and I decided that a second night was needed.

I did laundry, fixed some good vegan meals, walked dogs and just chilled.  It was a good rest.

We had a visitor this morning.   He was running around just trying my patience.                                             I needed to use the telephoto setting to get these pictures.        But get them, I did!                                      He was on his way to  visit another unique  RV.    At least I think one could call it an RV.  It actually was a fifty-six foot trailer pulled by a huge tractor!

This trailer has a fold down "deck".  They climb a set of stairs to get to the deck and enter from a double sliding glass patio door!  There is also a garage door in the back for their un-toad. Even with the car in the rear, just think of the room and storage they have inside!  I keep wondering if it had a split level inside since the trailer is so tall.

The paint was stealth black.  It had no decorative "swooshes" on the sides.  What I would have given to been able to see inside. The license plates indicated North Dakota. Have any of you seen it?

This morning, we  made the short run from Gila Bend to Quartzsite and all is well.  Well, kind of.

OK you master-mechanics, we have a problem.  The inverter is not working properly.  There seems to be a loose wire someplace in the inverter.  John wiggles the wires and sometimes the it starts working, sometimes not.

Tomorrow, Monday, we head into Quartzsite to find someone (any suggestions?) to look at the wiring and fix it.  This puts a damper on boondocking since we need electricity for the refrigerator.

That is all of our exciting day of full time travel.  Some days are great, some......well......are a challenge.

Thank you for joining us today and again, thank you so much for shopping Amazon through the link at the top, right of the page.

God bless you in your travels...

  1. I am glad you spent two days in one place. John's legs swelling really makes me nervous.

Sorry I can't help you with any suggestions in the Q. I just know someone who reads your blog will have a suggestion for you.

  3. Don't exert too much. Find a place in "Q" with hookups until you get your inverter taken care of. Be safe not only with your travels but with yourselves.

    2. Thanks for writing about the not so great days as well as the terrific. I often skip those since I'm not sure I want to remember them. Glad you stopped for a couple of days. Health is surely not something to take any chances with. Nice that you had such a good and inexpensive place to stay. Roadrunner live and in person is near the top of my list to see in the SW. Would love to have seen the Stealth RV. No picture?? Can't help with the inverter or with Q having never been there but you are sure right about it dampening the boondocking if you don't have an LP fridge.

    3. What do they say, Sherry, "Into a life a little rain must fall?" Well, I keep a record of my sun and rain. It is a method of know what and when and how it turned out.

John may have hit the right combination on the inverter last night. We ran the Genny all night for his CPAP and the frig....(we could not resist boondocking). Our frig is LP, but there must be enough electricity to light the propane. This morning all is right with the wold...for now. Going to test it today. The Escapees RV group does provide good discounts many time.

I have seen roadrunners before, but from the rear....running away or they have been too far to really see.

I wanted to take photos of the stealth, but I never saw anyone to ask permission.

  6. We actually had our wires come undone and rub so they burned. Someone on our Discovery forum told John there was a round piece on the side he could remove to get inside. He scrapped the wires and rewrapped them putting on a new wire protector and we are as good as new. Maybe yours is this easy also.

Sounds like too much driving. Please be careful. We try to stop every hour or so just to walk around and stretch our backs. Of course, we don't drive more than 200 miles a day if possible. A 300 mile day would be a long day for us. Hope John's legs are all good and ready to go.

  7. Glad John is resting up...We are finally getting some warm weather here...but a cold front (yep, another one) is to move through Wednesday, with 45 mph wind justs...our travel day, go figure..Mileage should be pretty lousy! Have fun in Quartzite!

  8. Hope John has solved the problem. Our Inverter cooked itself, so we're heading back to the Winnebago factory in May to get it replaced. I know it'll be done right and I can use my extended warranty. I could replace it myself but my warranty company then wouldn't pay.

  10. We love to stay in Gila Bend. We have always stayed at Augie's Quail Trail. Like your stay, there is little traffic noise and is a very restful place. Sorry about the inverter problem. Don't have any help for you.
4 days of long travel is hard on everyone...especially the driver. I lost one whole day on our return trip. Remembered the town where we spent the night, but couldn't remember the name or anything about staying there at all!!! Total Blank! After several weeks I decided to find the RV Park map. I'd gotten the name of the park off the credit card receipt and that still didn't jog my memory. Once I looked at the map...it all came back. Whew... I wrote in the blog that it must have been alright, because if it had been a bad experience, I would not have forgotten it. Anyway...long days equal lost memory...LOL. Take it easy and have some fun.

  11. How did I miss this post? Where was I? Sure hope John is doing better - those legs really worry me. I know that is one thing that all the doctor's check on Jim whenever we see them. Hope the inverter got fixed and you guys are taking it easy. I'm sure it's windy out there so stay inside and relax.
