WE HAVE ARRIVED

In the north west corner of Alabama sits a little town of around three thousand residents.  The two largest employers are Sunshine Mills, a pet food manufacturer and Tiffin Motor Homes, the manufacturer of our motorhome.

Red Bay is the name of this town that got its name from the red clay soil that it stands on and Bay came from the Bay tree which grows in town.

We are in Red Bay for three reasons:
1.  John and a boulder had a battle and the rock won, damaging John's psyche and the motorhome.
2.  We have a few repairs to challenge the service people's talents.
3.  There are a couple of upgrades that we would like to make in our full time home on wheels.

Hopefully, the repairs and upgrades will not take long as there are many empty sites in the Allegro Campground.

We needed a few groceries, so we went into town.  Our first stop was the Dollar Food Store.  We did find a couple of good deals, but there were also prices higher than one would imagine.

Next stop, Piggly Wiggly.  Piggly Wiggly is not your neighborhood Kroger!  They had very limited brands and selections.  Lesson learned....shop at a larger store before arriving in Red Bay.

What do we like about Red Bay?  After being here for twenty four hours, we have had more people smile and greet us than we can count.  Everyone here is extremely kind and courteous. I believe that is called southern hospitality.

Our quick escape from Indiana left us with a few unaccomplished errands. Tomorrow, we are going to venture further than Red Bay. We need to find a store similar to Pet Smart to buy the special dog food that we purchase for Oliver and Olivia.

A special thanks goes out to those who use our Amazon.com link to do your shopping.  Yesterday's reported purchases are:

 Holmes Personal Size Box Fan

NOOK 7" 8GB WiFi Tablet

Thanks for visiting with us. I hope that all of you are warm and comfy tonight.

May God bless you today and always.

  1. Hey there, Nan. Glad to see you in Red Bay getting things done. It is interesting to see folk's descriptions of staying in these little towns where the big rigs are made and repaired. Hope you are cozy while you wait.

  2. We think the best place to eat is called catfish Haven in Winfield Alabama. Not too far from Red Bay.
Also, if you want to have a great experience, go to Rattlesnake Saloon.
    Hope your stay is short.

  4. I have been thinking about John's perscription costs. Perhaps there are some you could stock up on in Mexico the next time you are out west. Even if you are not in the donut hole the cost is often less than a US drugstore using your insurance.

I have used Mexican drugstores a couple of times and the quality seems the same if you are careful. Many Seniors cross over for this and seem OK. It might help delay going into the hole. But then, by net year they may have some fixes for it. I hope so.

We have been very lucky so far. Craig only takes one med, a high blood pressure pill, and the cost at Walmart with our Humana part D ($18.50 per month) is ONE CENT for a 90 day supply. At first I thought it was a mistake, but it is not.

I take a few more, and also have the Humana plan. My total runs about $120 every three months. I get all generics.

  5. Marikay, you are so sweet to think about John's prescription costs. Mexico is on our agenda. We will go either before or after Quartzsite. John's problem is that since his condition is so severe, he is on the newest prescriptions which are not yet generic. THAT is what kills the budget.

I, too get all generics for the two I take regularly. I was paying big time for my migraine, but asked our Dr. to prescribe something I could get as a generic. (guess what, it does not work) I believe my meds cost me about $8.50 a month. Just wish John was that low.

  6. Glad you are further south. Hope that all the fixes and upgrades go smoothly and you are soon on your way.

    1. The fixes may take up to two weeks....or more. Basement doors must be ordered and for some reason, that takes a while. I am sure everything will go smoothly. The Tiffin owner's blogs that I follow report nothing but the best service and quality of work. That is why we chose to come down here rather than have an RV dealer work on our Allegro Bus.

  7. Okay, I'm curious - what upgrades are you doing? We're going to be in Yuma the 7th of January and headed to Mexico on the 8th for dental work. (If my passport shows up in time.)

    1. If affordable, we want a new dining area. Getting in and out of these bench seats is a pain in the tush. As much as I jumjp in and out of the seats at meal time, we just want to rise from a chair. Also would love to have our ceiling lights recessed. Just picky little things that would make our home more like home.

If we get done here in time, but too late to head for California, we may join you as you head Mexico way.

  8. I wanted to mention the same thing to you that Merikay did about the prescriptions. Check it out when you are there. Perhaps there are some that you'll be able to stock up on. My fingers are crossed that your service in Red Bay goes fast and costs less than you think.

    1. It is our understanding that we cannot get newer drugs there. Is that a fact? Our physician told us that we will only be able to get generic drugs down there, but I am not sure of his source of information.

  9. Good luck in Red Bay, you can't be a better place to get your MH's issues fixed and fixed right the first time. :c)

    1. Thanks much. At least we will not need to return to have work redone. There are even people with Winnebagos here for service. Go figure! PLUS their hourly rate is much less than Camping World.

    1. We have a feeling we will still be here when you arrive since they must order the two basement doors.
